Grooming and baths inside the veterinary clinic: how to organise them

Updated 2026-10-13 · 2 min read

Many clinics offer grooming: a bath, a cut, a deshedding. It's a good way to get clients coming in more often and to see the animal between check-ups. But it's usually run separately, in another notebook or another program, and reception ends up looking at two calendars.

Just another clinic service

The simple way is to treat grooming as what it is: clinic services, with their duration, their professional and their room. They share the calendar, the pet's record and the reminders with the consultation.

The right questions before booking

A bath for a small dog and one for a big dog with a matted coat don't take the same time. That's why, when someone asks for a grooming service, ClaudIA asks what's needed —breed, size, coat type and whether it's matted— and notes it on the record. For a vaccine it asks none of that.

Grooming prices are given as a range by size, just as you've published them, and confirmed when the animal is seen.

When the bath has to wait

If, when asking for the bath, the owner says the dog has a wound or something on its skin, ClaudIA doesn't book the bath on top: it alerts the team and offers a consultation first. At a clinic the vet is right there, and it's the vet who decides.

And the other way round: if the record says the dog's vaccine is due, it can be offered on the same day as the bath. One trip instead of two.

This article is about how a clinic is organised, not about animal health. Schedules, treatments and any decision about an animal belong to the vet who sees it.

Questions clinics ask

Does grooming need separate software? No. They're clinic services, in the same calendar and the same record as the consultation.

Does ClaudIA give a fixed price for a bath? It gives the range you've published for that size and says it's confirmed when the animal is seen.

Can bath packs be sold? Yes. Packs are counted automatically: each completed bath deducts a session.
